Spring 2026 Safety Grade is a national recognition for commitment to patient safety

CENTENNIAL, COLORADO (May 6, 2026) – Nine CommonSpirit Mountain Region hospitals have earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety.

Leapfrog assigns an “A”, “B”, “C”, “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country using evidence-based measures of patient safety focused exclusively on errors, accidents, injuries and infections. The nine Mountain Region hospitals receiving an “A” grade include:

Beyond earning an "A" in this cycle, four of these hospitals have achieved the prestigious "Straight A" designation, a testament to their sustained excellence in patient safety:

  • Longmont United Hospital
  • Mercy Hospital
  • St. Anthony North Hospital
  • St. Mary-Corwin Hospital

"Straight A" hospitals achieve an "A" safety grade for five or more consecutive cycles. This is an exceptional accomplishment, as only 15% of hospitals nationwide achieve this rare designation, underscoring these facilities' unwavering commitment to the highest standards of safety.

"To have nine of our Mountain Region hospitals recognized with an 'A' Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group reflects the deep commitment our entire team has to patient safety and building trust within the communities that we are so blessed to serve,” said Andrew Gaasch, President, CommonSpirit Mountain Region. “This honor is earned every day through the careful, collaborative work of our physicians, nurses, leaders, and staff—all united by our CommonSpirit purpose to provide a nurturing and secure environment for healing. We celebrate this collective success and are inspired to continue our journey of taking care of our communities by increasing our impact with even greater levels of safety and quality."

“An ‘A’ Grade is a strong sign that CommonSpirit Mountain Region is deeply committed to protecting patients from harm,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We commend the leadership, Board, clinicians, staff and volunteers for the role each played in earning this distinction.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
