Professional Nursing contributes to care of patients at Holy Cross Hospital-Jordan Valley and the surrounding community through the following services:

Bariatric Center of Excellence: Holy Cross Hospital-Jordan Valley is a Certified Center of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery. Our Bariatric Program Coordinator, a registered nurse (RN), offers pre- and post-surgical education to patients and leads a monthly support group. During the post-operative care process, our highly trained bariatric nurses continue to reinforce this education, providing support to patients and their families throughout this transformative surgical journey. Additionally, nurses and other multidisciplinary team members across the hospital are dedicated to promoting enhanced recovery after bariatric surgery.

Bone, joint, and spine care: Nurses and nurse practitioners provide pre-and post-operative care to patients needing new joints or other surgical interventions. Nurses teach classes on what to expect while in the hospital, then support the patient and family through the hospital experience. Nurses prioritize early mobility and pain control to help patients get home as soon as possible.

Cancer Center: Holy Cross Hospital-Jordan Valley Cancer program is a collaborative team approach with the patient at the center. We work with Medical Oncologists, Radiation Oncologists,  Surgeons, medical physicists, dosimetrists, radiation therapists,  and oncology nurses to provide up to date cancer care. Our Breast Care Center is American College of Radiology (ACR), and FDA Mammography Quality Standard Act certified.  Board certified radiation therapists provide personal and targeted radiation treatments with precision. Oncology nurses are nationally certified, providing the highest level of expertise in delivering chemotherapy,  medical, surgical and end of life care. Nurse Navigators support the patient throughout their cancer journey from diagnosis to survivorship through education, care coordination, support and facilitating hospital and community resources. Nurses facilitate multiple community support groups, integrative therapies, cancer screening, and community events to help patients through their cancer experience.

Cardiology care: Nurses coordinate cardiac testing for early identification of heart disease and cardiac rehabilitation following a heart disease diagnosis. Cardiac catheterization lab nurses support patients through skilled vascular procedures to improve circulation and collaborate with Cardiology physicians and  the Emergency Department to provide prompt interventions to reduce the negative effects of heart attacks. Cardiac nurses provide inpatients with support and monitoring to identify and manage cardiac symptoms and arrhythmias.

Emergency and trauma care: Our Emergency and Trauma nurses deliver care continuum through all stages of life. The nursing team implements care delivery protocols which are evidence-based and provide superior outcomes for sepsis, geriatric, stroke, cardiac, medical, pediatric, and trauma patients. Nurses utilize evidence-based guidelines for triage which assist in decreasing wait times and provide prompt or immediate emergency care for high acuity patients. Our nursing team has assisted in the achievement of Level III Trauma Certification additionally, Primary Stroke Certification from the American Heart Association.

Intensive care:  Our Critical Care nursing teams are ready to serve those patients and their family  who need critical care around the clock. These critical ill patients require highly skilled nursing interventions. Critical Care nurses have worked to reduce patient infections and improve patient mobility and comfort, supporting both the patient and their family members. Our interdepartmental relationships allow our staff to treat patients and families holistically. The team works together towards a common goal of excellent patient experience and a welcoming work environment. 

Medical and surgical care: Nurses care with compassion for patients needing general medical and/or surgical services. Acute Care nurses have protocols to reduce hospital-acquired infections to influence hospital length of stay and increase patient comfort. Advanced training for our patient population has been completed in order to provide proper care for our various medical diagnoses. Holy Cross Hospital-Jordan Valley medical units implemented the PIVO device, which eliminates multiple blood draws for patients, making the patient experience more comfortable.

Neonatal Intensive care: We are a 21-bed semi private Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with highly trained nurses and Neonatologists deliver care to our smallest patients down to 23 weeks gestation. We have a team of nurses with advanced training qualified to attend high-risk deliveries.This training includes intubation, UVC placement, PICC placement with assistance of our Neonatologist available 24/7. Our Level III NICU utilizes state-of-the-art equipment to take care of sick and premature infants, including central monitoring system, ventilators, high-frequency ventilation, nitric oxide therapy, and many other services. In addition we offer a parent support room in which the mother and infant requiring minor NICU support may board together as patients. Their focus on promoting health and development helps get babies home to their families as soon as possible.

Neurology care: Nurses provide care to patients through the diagnosis, treatment, and surgical intervention processes. There is a nurse stroke coordinator who leads the Holy Cross Hospital-Jordan Valley Stroke Certification process, ensuring top-level care for stroke patients.

Obstetrical care: Nurses provide care for our pregnant patients throughout the antepartum, labor, delivery, and postpartum periods. Nurses are highly skilled and trained to provide education and support while performing continuous assessment and intervention during labor and birth; and postpartum care to promote recovery and establish newborn bonding. Professional nursing organizational standards have been implemented for patient safety related to electronic fetal monitoring, breastfeeding, decreasing cesarean sections, and more. 

Outpatient care: Nurses support patients who may not need an inpatient stay but need care and treatment. Our gastrointestinal lab nurses prepare and care for patients needing procedures like endoscopies or colonoscopies. Interventional radiology nurses support patients through skilled diagnostic procedures to inform their healthcare. Infusion center nurses provide outpatient intravenous medications, including chemotherapy and antibiotics.

Perioperative care: Our skilled nurses support the patient through preparation for surgery, assist during surgical procedures, and provide support and care during the recovery process. Professional nursing organization standards have been implemented by perioperative nurses, including the time-out process, reduction of micro-organisms that can result in infections. Proper positioning of the patient, and ensuring all counts are correct before and after the surgical procedure. 

Peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) team: The PICC  Nurses provide ultrasound-guided vascular access via PICC, midline, and difficult PIV placement. They lead CLABSI prevention efforts by providing evidence-based specialty care, as well as patient and staff education at Holy Cross Jordan Valley and Holy Cross West Valley

Rehabilitation services: Nurses provide care to individuals who required continued medical services as well as specialized rehabilitation care in collaboration with a multidisciplinary care team in order to create an individualized care plan to assist patients to achieve maximum independence. Our dedicated team of rehabilitation professionals works in conjunctions with patients, family and /or caregivers to design a comprehensive individualized treatment plan based on a comprehensive evaluation process and to establish measurable goals with the focus of returning vital functions such as mobility, balance, self-care activities, memory and speech.

Christine McSweeney leads Holy Cross Hospital – Jordan Valley and Holy Cross Hospital – West Valley as Chief Executive Officer. Christine is devoted to leading our ministries with kindness and collaboration, while serving our communities with excellence and compassion.

With more than 25 years of health care leadership experience, Christine has served CommonSpirit Health since 2019. Before joining the Holy Cross hospitals in Utah, she was interim Chief Executive Officer as well as Chief Operating Officer at St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, CO. Previously, she served as Group Vice President of Operations & Shared Services for nine hospitals in Colorado and Kansas. Prior to joining CommonSpirit, Christine held leadership roles at Banner Health and Banner University Medicine Division for 20 years.

Christine works to inspire her teams to thrive and improve every day in service to our patients and communities, and she loves to see great ideas put into action.

Christine earned her Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from the University of Wisconsin, her MBA from the W.P. Carey School of Business. She has been a Fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives since 2010.

Katie Flores serves as the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) at Holy Cross Hospital- Jordan Valley, supporting frontline nursing staff in providing excellent patient care. She also serves as the Market Chief Nursing Officer for the Greater Salt Lake Market, overseeing nursing care across CommonSpirit's Utah hospitals in support of our other hospital CNOs. Katie has over 24 years of clinical experience, which began with HCA Healthcare working as a Medical/Surgical and Emergency Department nurse. Prior to joining CommonSpirit, she has served in leadership roles as the Assistant Chief Nursing Officer and previously the Medical/Surgical Director for HCA facilities.

Katie earned both her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree and her Master of Science in Nursing Leadership and Management (MSN) degree from Western Governors University. She has her Nurse Executive national certification and is a member of the American Organization of Nurse Leaders and Utah Organization of Nurse Leaders.

Rebecca Vogel, MD, serves as Interim Chief Medical Officer for the Greater Salt Lake Market, including the five Holy Cross hospitals along the Wasatch Front. Dr. Vogel is responsible for managing the hospitals’ clinical operations, liaising between the administration and clinical care providers, and ensuring our patients receive the highest quality of medical care.

Previously, Dr. Vogel served as Executive Medical Director for Physician Residencies and led graduate medical education for the Mountain Region. She was the first female chief of staff at CommonSpirit St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, CO, and is a previous winner of Physician of the Year.

Patient safety and quality are Dr. Vogel’s passions, and she firmly believes in delivering the same level of excellence for our patients that our providers would expect for their own families.

Dr. Vogel earned her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Colorado and a bachelor’s degree from Yale University. She is on track to graduate with her MBA in the Fall of 2024 from the Kelley School of Business.

Derek Lau is the Chief Financial Officer serving Holy Cross Hospital – Jordan Valley, Holy Cross Hospital – West Valley, and Holy Cross Hospital – Mountain Point. Responsible for providing strategic leadership in finance, including stewardship and growth initiatives, Derek has served the CommonSpirit Holy Cross hospitals for nearly a decade. He was part of the team responsible for building Holy Cross Hospital - Mountain Point in 2015. He is motivated by the opportunity to help further CommonSpirit's mission in the Greater Salt Lake market. 

A licensed CPA and Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP), Derek was an accountant with Arthur Andersen early in his career, auditing hospitals and other non-profit entities throughout the southwest. He later spent 12 years at Yavapai Regional Medical Center in Prescott, Arizona as a controller.

Derek earned his Master of Accountancy from Arizona State University and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from DeVry Institute of Technology.

There are currently no set visiting hours, but some visitation restrictions may apply such as:

  • After 6 pm, most doors are locked, and visitors will need to enter through the public emergency department entrance.
  • Visitors may be asked to leave a patient’s room during tests and treatments.
  • Visitation restrictions may be imposed by the hospital if clinically necessary or needed to ensure safe care of patients.

Free parking is located near all hospital entrances. Convenient covered pull through areas for patient drop off and pick up are located at the outpatient, inpatient and women’s center entrances.

The hospital provides plenty of spacious and comfortable lobbies and family waiting areas. The surgery family waiting area is near the JV Café, which provides refreshments. Vending machines offering a range of snack foods and beverages are located in all other family waiting areas. Wireless internet access is available throughout the hospital including family waiting areas, patient rooms and the JV Café.

To protect our patients, families and employees, we kindly ask that visitors follow these important rules when visiting the ICU:

  • There is a two-person limit inside ICU patient rooms unless special arrangements have been made with the patient’s nurse. Comfortable waiting areas are provided nearby.
  • Due to increased risk of infection, children under the age of 12 may not be allowed to visit; please contact the unit directly before bringing children to the hospital to visit.
  • To protect the privacy of our patients, please do not visit in the ICU hallways.

To protect our babies and their loved ones, please follow these rules when visiting the birth center at Holy Cross Hospital – Jordan Valley:

  • Mom’s partner/support person is encouraged to stay in their room as needed 24 hours a day.
  • Relatives, siblings and friends may visit at the discretion/approval of the patient and medical team.
  • Due to patient privacy laws, all visitors are prohibited from congregating in the hallway or near nurse’s station.
  • Rules for children under 12 and sick (or recently sick) adults often vary depending on multiple factors such as season and prevalence of disease within the community. Please contact the department before coming to visit.

Located in the outpatient lobby, the JV Café provides a wide range of healthy selections including daily hot entrees, a salad bar, grill and desserts.

Monday - Friday:

  • Breakfast: 7 am to 10 am
  • Lunch: 11 am to 2 pm
  • Dinner 2 pm to 7 pm

Saturday - Sunday:

  • All meals: 7 am to 7 pm

Please ask staff for any assistance you may need with meals.

The chapel inside Holy Cross Hospital - Jordan Valley is located near the women’s center entrance on the first floor. Patients and their families are welcome to visit the chapel anytime.

CommonSpirit hospitals receive many requests each year asking us to engage in community events and programs. Supporting the communities in this way is a reflection of our mission to improve the health of the people we serve, especially those who are vulnerable, while we advance social justice for all.

Before submitting a request, please consider the following:

  • Sponsorships and events should align with our mission and values; community health improvement or prevention; and one of the hospital’s Community Health Needs Assessment priorities.
  • Please make your request at least 60 days prior to your event or sponsorship deadline.
  • Completion of this form does not guarantee a donation or sponsorship.
  • We are only able to support non-profit organizations.
  • Completed requests will be considered by an internal committee.
