WEST JORDAN, UT (Sept. 30, 2026) — CommonSpirit Cancer Center Holy Cross Jordan Valley is launching a new, comprehensive support group designed to provide emotional and psychological resources for adults navigating the challenges of a cancer diagnosis.
Beginning October 22, the center will offer weekly sessions that prioritize personal growth, community, and meaningful support. Recognizing that cancer affects not only the patient but also their loved ones, the initiative includes two distinct components: a specialized support group for patients and survivors, and a dedicated, volunteer-hosted space for caregivers.
A Path Forward: Meaning-Centered Therapy
The support group will utilize "Meaning-Centered Therapy," an approach derived from the work of psychiatrist Viktor Frankl. This methodology helps participants navigate the "Now What?" concept that empowers people to find purpose and meaning despite the challenges of a cancer diagnosis.
“Our goal is to provide more than just a place to talk,” says Leticia Haacke, session facilitator. “By focusing on personal meaning and the ‘Now What,’ we hope to help our participants strengthen their mind-body connection and find a renewed sense of purpose during their journey.”
Support for Both Patients and Caregivers
The program is open to all adults 18 and older, welcoming both active patients and those in remission. Organizers believe that survivors play a vital role in providing hope and encouragement to those currently in treatment.
Understanding the unique burden on family members, the Cancer Center is also introducing a dedicated caregiver space that will be staffed by volunteers and stocked with activities and resources to provide caregivers with a supportive, relaxing environment while their loved ones are in treatment or attending group sessions.
Program Details:
- Start Date: Thursday, October 22

“We know that the cancer journey is complex, and no one should have to walk it alone,” says Julie Steadman, Cancer Center manager. “By creating a space for both patients and their caregivers, we are committed to supporting the whole person and their support system.”
