DURANGO, CO (March 10, 2026) - CommonSpirit Mercy Hospital proudly announces its recognition as one of the nation’s “Top 100 Rural & Community Hospitals” for 2026 by the Chartis Center for Rural Health. This prestigious accolade highlights Mercy Hospital’s unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality, accessible healthcare to Durango and the Four Corners region.
The annual Chartis Top 100 Rural & Community Hospitals list is one of the most respected benchmarks for rural healthcare performance in the United States. It identifies hospitals consistently achieving excellence in overall performance among the more than 2,000 rural and community hospitals nationwide.
“We are incredibly honored to be named a Top 100 Rural & Community Hospital by the Chartis Center for Rural Health for now the fifth year in a row,” said Josh Neff, president of Mercy Hospital. “This recognition is a direct reflection of the tireless dedication and exceptional work of every single member of our staff, from our compassionate nurses and skilled physicians to our diligent support teams. It underscores our commitment to providing outstanding care, right here in our community, ensuring our friends and neighbors don’t have to travel far for excellent healthcare.”
The hospitals recognized in the Top 100 are determined by the Chartis Center for Rural Health’s proprietary Rural Hospital Performance INDEX™, which assesses performance across eight key areas:
- Quality
- Outcomes
- Patient Perspective
- Cost
- Charge
- Financial Efficiency
- Inpatient Market Share
This comprehensive evaluation identifies rural hospitals that are truly leading the way in delivering high-quality, cost-effective care.
“The delivery of care within rural communities is perhaps more complex today than at any point in recent memory. This year’s Top 100 Rural & Community Hospitals have emerged as true leaders – committed to their mission through a powerful combination of resilience, dedication and innovation,” said Michael Topchik, executive director of The Chartis Center for Rural Health. “We’re delighted to recognize this year’s winners and celebrate their Top 100 status.”
