SALT LAKE CITY, UT (Sept. 3, 2025) – As the adoption of robotic-assisted surgery continues to grow rapidly across the country, Holy Cross Hospital – Salt Lake is positioned to lead that advancement locally as Utah’s only SRC-designated Robotic Surgery Center of Excellence.
The hospital received the designation from SRC (Surgical Review Corporation), a national nonprofit patient safety organization, earlier this month.
Holy Cross Hospital – Salt Lake has three different types of surgical robot systems – each used for different types of cases: da Vinci, Mako, and T-Mini.
“For many of my patients, robot-assisted surgery is an outstanding option,” said Dr. Blake Johnson, a urologic surgeon, who utilizes the da Vinci robotic platform to perform prostate as well as other surgeries. “The robot facilitates precise dissection, as well as unparalleled visualization during surgical procedures. In many instances, the robot results in less surgical pain, decreased surgical time and improved outcomes, due to the minimally invasive nature, and advanced technology associated with the robot.”
Dr. Johnson was designated as a Surgeon of Excellence by SRC. SRC criteria for center of excellence designation include review of the hospital’s commitment to quality of care and patient safety, experience in performing surgery, the level of training of staff, physician competence and the robotic equipment available.
“This designation is a validation to our community of the excellent medical care available at Holy Cross Hospital – Salt Lake,” said Bryan McKinley, hospital president. “We are committed to investing in state-of-the-art technology, and recruiting and retaining the very best physicians and team members in order to meet the needs of Salt Lake residents who come to us for their care.”
