About James Genuario, MD

Dr. James Genuario, MD, is an Orthopedic Surgeon at The Sports Center - CommonSpirit and St. Anthony Hospital. His care philosophy centers on treating every patient like family, delivering compassionate, cutting-edge care supported by evidence-based medicine and technology, with the ultimate goal of returning patients to the pursuits they love.

Dr. Genuario earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Minor in Anthropology at the University of Notre Dame. He earned his Doctor of Medicine at Northwestern University. He completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, where he also earned a Master's degree in Health Policy through the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery (AAOS). He further pursued a fellowship in Sports Medicine Orthopedic Surgery at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic Denver.

Currently, Dr. Genuario serves as a Team Physician for the Denver Broncos Football Club. He has served as a Team Physician for the Colorado Rockies, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Rapids, and Colorado Ballet. He is an associate editor for the American Journal of Sports Medicine, a reviewer for the Orthopedic Journal of Sports Medicine, and a lecturer both nationally and internationally on sports medicine. 

His areas of expertise include hip preservation surgery, athletic injuries around the hip, minimally invasive shoulder and knee arthroscopy, and the cutting-edge science of platelet-rich plasma and biologic therapy, including stem cell treatment. An active researcher, Dr. Genuario has contributed to the advancement of orthopedics through numerous publications, including articles, abstracts, and book chapters.

Outside of his practice, Dr. Genuario enjoys spending time with his wife and three kids, traveling, skiing, hiking, and cheering on Colorado sports teams.
