About Kade Huntsman, MD
Dr. Kade Huntsman is a highly respected spine surgeon specializing in complex and minimally invasive procedures for the neck and back, including treatment of athletic spinal injuries. He has served as the Chief of Surgery at St. Mark’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, where he led a nationally recognized spine program consistently ranked for excellence. As past president of the Utah State Orthopedic Society, Dr. Huntsman remains actively engaged in both national and international spine communities, as well as in service to his local community.
Dr. Huntsman’s path to medicine is as remarkable as his career. Early on, while working in the medical field selling orthopedic implants, he witnessed a surgeon struggling during a hip replacement procedure. Wanting to step in and help — although unable to — he made a life-changing decision that same day to pursue medicine himself. Determined to follow that call, he worked tirelessly to put himself through school, laying carpet to pay his way. This hands-on mindset has stayed with him ever since. He is known for his ability to fix just about anything involving motors, mechanics, or the intricate challenges of spine surgery.
Dr. Huntsman earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Utah, where he studied biology, chemistry, and Asian languages. He received his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School at the Medical College of Hampton Roads. He completed his residency at Case Western Reserve University under the mentorship of Dr. Henry Bohlman, followed by a spine fellowship at the Rocky Mountain Spine Clinic with Dr. Jack Odom. Since 2002, Dr. Huntsman has been advancing the field of spine surgery.
At the Huntsman Spinal Clinic, he leads a deeply committed team to innovation, research, and patient-centered care. Their work focuses on refining surgical techniques, advancing implant technology, promoting motion preservation, and integrating cutting-edge technologies into the operating room. Dr. Huntsman has played a key role in the advancement of intraoperative imaging, spinal robotics, and neuromonitoring — enhancing both the safety and effectiveness of minimally invasive spine surgery.
Dr. Huntsman’s multidisciplinary team provides comprehensive care for a full range of spine conditions, offering both conservative and surgical solutions for sports injuries, degenerative disorders, and complex reconstructive cases such as scoliosis. They also specialize in motion preservation procedures, including cervical and lumbar disc replacement. His team includes physical therapists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, rehabilitation specialists, pain management physicians, and an exceptional nursing and support staff.
Board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, Dr. Huntsman is a sought-after speaker who is passionate about advancing spinal care and improving patient outcomes. Especially known for his exceptional patient care, Dr. Huntsman is deeply valued by those he treats. His patients consistently praise his genuine compassion, approachable nature, and the time he takes to truly listen.
