St. Elizabeth Hospital, has served the community of Fort Morgan for more than 70 years. Fully accredited by The Joint Commission every year since 1954, St. Elizabeth Hospital is a 50-bed acute-care hospital with a Level III Trauma Center and a 24-hour Emergency Room. John Swanhorst serves as the Chief Nursing Officer for St. Elizabeth Hospital. John, who is on a mission to always have fun, build relationships, and see the best in everyone around him, joined St. Elizabeth in August 2022.

Prior to joining St. Elizabeth Hospital, John served as Director of Emergency Services of St. Anthony Hospital, a Level I Trauma Center, in Lakewood, CO. John’s knowledge of healthcare, along with his compassionate, forward-thinking leadership style and operational experience has served St. Elizabeth Hospital and its patients well.

John earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Science in Nursing, Nursing Health Care Administration and Master of Healthcare Administration degrees from Clarkson College in Omaha. He also earned his Doctor of Nursing Practice, Executive Leadership degree from the University of St. Augustine and has multiple publications on Nurse Leader Rounding, compliance, and ED process improvement.

Being a volunteer can increase self-confidence, promote positive health, and provide you with valuable career experience. You can develop new skills, meet like-minded people and make a positive contribution to your community.

At St. Elizabeth Hospital, volunteers help with:

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month, we are continuing the tradition of Monday Night Mammograms throughout the month of October.

Hours are extended for those who may not be able to get a screening done during normal business hours. Monday Night Mammogram hours are:

  • Oct 7th: 12pm-8pm
  • Oct 14th: 8am-8pm
  • Oct 21st: 8am-8pm
  • Oct 28th: 8am-8pm

Below, you’ll find information on everything from our gift shop hours to tips for visiting a loved one in the ICU. Please read CommonSpirit Health’s current COVID-19 visitor restrictions. Contact St. Elizabeth Hospital directly for additional individual visitor policies that may apply. 

  • Visiting hours are 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. 

  • MedSurg and ICU patients will be allowed two visitors at any given time. 

  • OB patients will be allowed two support persons/visitors at any given time. 

  • The ED will allow two support persons at any given time. 

  • Clinics will allow two support persons per patient and no visitors under the age of 16 unless the minor is the patient or accompanying a family member that needs assistance.

  • Exceptions to the visitor policy: 

    • No visitors for patients who have tested positive for COVID-19 or who are awaiting COVID-19 test results. 

    • The Geriatric Behavioral Health Unit is a case-by-case basis and up to the discretion of the unit director.

    • Minor children, individuals unable to manage their own decisions and disabled individuals requiring assistance from a regular caregiver will be allowed two individuals to accompany them while in the facility.

    • End-of-life patients will be allowed two visitors in the morning and two visitors in the afternoon unless unit director makes exception to the rule on a case-by-case basis. 

  • All visitors will be screened for symptoms of COVID-19 before being allowed to enter.  If a visitor shows signs or symptoms of COVID-19, they will not be allowed to enter the building unless they are seeking care. 

  • We ask all patients and visitors to wear their own personal masks into our health care facility to help protect you, our patients and our staff during your visit. Any type of surgical or cloth mask is fine. 

Visiting hours at St. Elizabeth Hospital, including the intensive care unit, are from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. 

ICU patients may have only two visitors at one time. Children must be at least 16 years old to visit the ICU unless special arrangements are made. 

The gift shop, located near the front entrance of the medical office building, is open Monday through Thursday, 10:00am - 2:00pm & Friday 10:00am - 3:00pm

The gift shop’s phone number is 970-867-3391, ext. 3552. Please note that latex balloons are not permitted anywhere inside St. Elizabeth Hospital, and flowers/plants are not permitted in the ICU.   

Branches cafeteria, located near the lab waiting room on the lower floor, is open 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily.  

  • Free coffee and tea are available during business hours.

  • Hot meals are available for purchase from 7:45 to 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

  • Vending machines are available in the hospital's entrance lobby 24 hours per day.

As we fully integrate with CommonSpirit Health, we are pausing community engagement commitments until June 1, 2024. However, you are welcome to submit an application using the guidelines below. We will notify you directly if your organization is selected for funding. We appreciate your patience and look forward to working with you in the future.

How to submit an engagement request

CommonSpirit hospitals receive many requests each year asking us to engage in community events and programs. Supporting the communities in this way is a reflection of our mission to improve the health of the people we serve, especially those who are vulnerable, while we advance social justice for all.

Before submitting a request, please consider the following:

  • Sponsorships and events should align with our mission and values; community health improvement or prevention; and one of the hospital’s Community Health Needs Assessment priorities.
  • Please make your request at least 60 days prior to your event or sponsorship deadline.
  • Completion of this form does not guarantee a donation or sponsorship.
  • We are only able to support non-profit organizations.
  • Completed requests will be considered by an internal committee. We will contact you regarding the status of your request when we reopen community engagement giving June 1, 2024.
