About Jennifer Wenzell, DO
Jennifer Wenzell, DO, is a perinatologist who is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as Maternal-Fetal Medicine. She attended Binghamton University in upstate New York and received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. She then attended Boston University, where she received a master’s with honors in Medical Science. She attended medical school at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and was awarded a scholarship from the F. Edward Hébert Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program.
Following graduation in 1998 she began her active-duty service in the Army and completed an internship in Transitional Medicine at Madigan Army Medical Center (MAMC) in 1999. From 1999 to 2001 she was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, where she served as a flight surgeon, the 4th ID Preventive Medicine Officer, and the 4th ID 1st Brigade Surgeon. In 2004 she returned to MAMC and completed a residency in OB/GYN. Dr. Wenzell was a fellow in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at MAMC from 2004 to 2007. Following graduation she remained on as Chief of the Antenatal Diagnostic Center, a staff perinatologist, and Assistant Fellowship Director until she retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2012. She was deployed to Iraq in 2009 as a General Surgeon.
Her husband, Dr. Daniel Wenzell, remained in the Army and their family relocated to Anchorage, Alaska in 2012. Dr. Jen Wenzell worked at the Alaska Native Medical Center and cared for the high-risk Alaska Native and American Indian population across the state. Working with patients in remote locations and with limited resources was challenging but rewarding and brought her a deep appreciation for outreach clinics within the state of Colorado. Her husband’s final duty station was at Fort Carson, Evan’s Army Community Hospital, and the family moved to Monument, Colorado in 2016. They have loved living in Colorado ever since.
Dr. Wenzell enjoys spending time with her family hunting and fishing at their home in Alaska. Sharing smoked salmon and homemade food with friends and family is another favorite pastime, so when she and her husband aren’t in their respective clinics you can find them in the kitchen experimenting with new recipes.
