About Eric Ahnfeldt, DO
Dr. Eric Ahnfeldt, DO, is a General Surgeon at CommonSpirit General Surgery St. Thomas More driven by a profound care philosophy centered on delivering compassionate, individualized surgical care. His practice is grounded in technical excellence, evidence-based medicine, and honest communication with every patient. Dr. Ahnfeldt believes in treating the whole person, addressing not just physical ailments but also each patient's emotional and spiritual well-being. Dr. Ahnfeldt earned his Bachelor of Science from Wheaton College before pursuing his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. His surgical residency was completed at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, providing him with a robust foundation in general surgery. Dr. Ahnfeldt then undertook a Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery Fellowship at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Ahnfeldt is a proud Army veteran. During his 22 years of service, he completed six combat deployments as a trauma surgeon, cared for hundreds of combat casualties, participated in humanitarian missions, and had the privilege of leading large multidisciplinary surgical organizations. Those experiences profoundly influenced his approach to patient care, teamwork, leadership, and communication.
Outside of his practice, Dr. Ahnfeldt enjoys hiking with his Bernese mountain dog, Toby, and is dedicated to restoring his classic 1965 Ford Mustang. Dr. Ahnfeldt also has a passion for designing outdoor living spaces, delving into military history through reading, and, most importantly, cherishing time spent with his wife, Kari, and their three children.
