Wound Care Center
The Wound Care Center at Mercy Hospital treats patients with chronic wounds and uses an evidence-based, systematic approach to chronic wound healing. The center’s medical providers and staff employ a variety of wound-healing therapies and work closely with each patient and their primary care providers to create an individualized plan to promote healing.
Our Services
We are pleased to offer our services to the many patients in the Four Corners region who suffer from chronic wounds. Physician referral to the wound care center is not required, and most insurances cover the cost of care, however, it is advisable to verify insurance coverage prior to seeking care. Walk-in treatment is available without an appointment for various conditions. We also treat patients who have been admitted to Mercy Hospital.
Some indications for wound therapy include diabetic, neuropathic, pressure, ischemic ulcers, venous insufficiency, traumatic wounds, surgical wounds, vasculitis, burns, radiation tissue damage, necrotizing soft tissue infection, peristomal skin irritations and other conditions.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is one of the therapies available at the center. HBOT patients are enclosed in a pressurized chamber where they breathe pure oxygen for a set period of time. This process aids healing by helping the body’s oxygen-dependent, wound-healing mechanisms function more efficiently. In the oxygen-rich hyperbaric environment, the lungs are able to transfer more dissolved oxygen into the red blood cells and blood plasma. As a result, the blood can carry between 15 to 20 times the normal amount of oxygen to the body’s tissues.
A patient typically receives one HBOT session per day for 30 to 40 days. On average, HBOT is indicated for slightly fewer than one in five wound care patients. Mercy Regional Hospital's center has two HBOT chambers, which can be used simultaneously.
