What is Robot-Assisted Surgery?

When facing a surgical diagnosis, understanding all your options is crucial. At Holy Cross Hospital - Mountain Point, we're dedicated to offering the least invasive surgical treatments available through our advanced, multi-specialty, robot-assisted surgery program. We believe in providing you and your loved ones with the most precise care, designed for quicker recovery and a better healing experience

Our surgeons use the most advanced robotic surgery systems to perform complex procedures through smaller incisions for enhanced precision. This means minimally invasive surgical therapies are now available to patients whose only previous surgical options may have been traditional “open” procedures. Robot-assisted surgery is available across numerous specialties, including general surgery, gynecology, orthopedics, and urology.

Some of the benefits of robot-assisted surgery include:

  • Faster recovery time
  • Fewer post-operative infections and complications
  • Reduced pain
  • Less exposure to pain medications
  • Shorter hospital stays
  • Minimal scarring
  • Smaller incisions

BPH is a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland that surrounds the urethra. It is thought to be the result of cell growth and hormone changes that are part of the aging process. Holy Cross Hospital – Mountain Point is the first in Utah to offer the only image-guided, heat-free, automated robotic therapy for BPH.

Benefits you can expect from Aquablation Therapy include:

  • Smaller incisions
  • Reduced pain

Minimally Invasive Robot-Assisted Surgery

Holy Cross Hospital – Mountain Point utilizes advanced robotic technology to perform complex surgical procedures using only a few small incisions. The da Vinci® robot, controlled by the surgeon from a nearby control center, features multiple arms capable of maneuvers and rotations that surpass the natural ability of the human hand. Surgeons use the robotic system for general surgery (including hernia repair and bariatric surgery), hysterectomy, myomectomy, prostatectomy.

For patients, this robot-assisted surgery offers numerous advantages, including significantly less pain, reduced blood loss, and minimal scarring. This advanced surgical approach also leads to a shorter recovery time, allowing for a faster return to daily activities and often resulting in better clinical outcomes.

Using sophisticated software, 3D virtual models and robotic arm technology, surgeons using Mako® technology can determine the correct size and positioning needed for each individual patient’s implant.

The benefits of this minimally invasive procedure include personalized surgical plans, real-time feedback for surgeons, precise bone preparation and implant placement, minimal blood loss and scarring, preservation of healthy tissue, less post-operative pain, quicker recovery, improved mobility, increased daily activity, decreased risk of further injury, improved quality of life, and long-term benefits.

Robot-Assisted Navigation for Partial or Total Knee Replacement

Robot-Assisted Surgery

Robot-Assisted Navigation for Partial or Total Knee Replacement

This advanced system combines navigation technology working in conjunction with a handheld robot-assisted system to aid in partial or total knee replacement surgery. The CORI® Robot-Assisted Surgery creates a customized 3D digital model of your knee to help your surgeon finalize and verify the right size implant for you in addition to creating a detailed surgical plan for how your replacement will be placed to optimize movement and function. The robot enables surgeons to be extremely precise with placement of your knee implant.

Robot-assisted navigation offers several benefits for joint replacement, including flexibility, reduced radiation exposure through image-free smart mapping, optimized alignment and balance, data access for surgeons to improve outcomes, and faster recovery than conventional surgery.
